Going Retro

I was leafing through old photos in search of grade school pictures I could contribute to our upcoming ERES Reunion. And I found these not-so-cute pictures of my younger self. Not very flattering, which was very timely because my self-esteem was hovering somewhere near "NORMAL" and I needed something to kick it down a notch or two.

According to MyHeritage, I look like these people. Though I'm not really sure who Bam Margera, Joi Ito and Alfonso Herrera are (quick Wikipedia searches helped a lot), I think I do see the similarities (except for Bam Margera, that is). But Kristine Hermosa??? Come on!

COMEDY CENTRAL's STAND-UP SHOWDOWN

In another window, I am on the Comedy Central website looking at a list for their Stand-up Showdown, where a hundred stand up comedians battle it up to be number one! I'm not sure if I can vote since it seems that wou can only vote via text.

I'm looking at the list of the stand-up comedians. And I am going to have a heart attack. If my life depended on voting for just one comedian, I think I'd die even before I make a choice and actually get my vote in. Provided that I may vote other than via text.

Included in the Top 20 so far:
Dane Cook (1), Jim Gaffigan (2), Frank Caliendo (5), Mike Birbiglia (10) and Carlos Mencia (14). It's a freaking hard choice, and the only reason I've narrowed the top 20 down to these five is that these are the people I know from the list.

Other comedians in the list (the ones I know, at least...)
Jimmy Carr (British humor isn't exactly my thing), Nick DiPaolo, Greg Fitzsimmons, Zach Galiffianakis (a real shocker for me last year, since I first saw him as the geek coroner in Tru Calling), Jeremy Hotz (his style tends to lean towards whiney-ass complains, which gets boring after a few jokes), Patrice O'Neal, Patton Oswalt (effing funny dude), Dat Phan (effing unfunny dude, but he's got the underdog thing down pat, so he's got my pity vote I guess), Brian Posehn
(who once played Just Shoot Me's office oddball), Aries Spears, Wanda Sykes (I just don't understand her accent sometimes), Rich Vos (who told a severely ancient joke during his run with The Last Comic Standing), Dave Attell (whose show The Insomniac I watched religiously), Greg Behrendt (one of my favorite comedians, who was recently in the country and I didn't even know about it), Greg Giraldo, Todd Glass, John Heffron and Harland Williams (who looks like an oddball and tells the jokes in dead tone).

SO with the LOOOONG list of choices of pretty competent comics, who do you side with? Who indeed?

I haven't been posting here as much as I should. Bad blogger, bad! But now I'm trying to make ammends with the blogger in me and start writing more.

Dahil me utang ako sa blog na ito, I'll be posting here some of the posts I have been making with my other blog (salawahan amf).

Sobrang badtrip ako today. Radio Idol had a Wildcard episode last night. Obviously I didn't even make it.

They initially announced four names during the day, four people to fight over the 10th and final slot for Level3. But only two people actually attended the program. So sayang 'yung slot!

And when the two people were talking, dammit it was oh so freakishly boring. I don't think I was that boring, I was at best too uptight and grumpy (also tongue-tied and overly groggy). I mean, I'm probably somewhere in the bottom among to those who didn't make it (including those who didn't get in just because they didn't have enough friends to vote for them), and even I'm aware I could've done better. Hindi ako nagyayabang, it's not in my nature.

The finale? Both got the "NOT WORTHY" stinger.

If they had called me for a second chance, I would be there like 30 mins early, and I would probably do a lot better than my first appearance since my rhinitis is gone now and of course I would no longer be bouyed by two antihistamine pills.

Damnmit.

OK, so I didn't pass on to Level 3 of Radio Idol, but I got free dinner in the process so it's all good.

Yes, I was boring, I could see it, but being so nervous took over and the coward in me had let it. So I wasn't shaking as bad as the guy who passed, or I din't overdo the confidence bit or was obviously not struggling with words as the other guys, but still the panicking, clammy, serious guy in me led to my downfall. It was at the very least a fun experience, a great learning experience at the most.

No biggie.

And besides, there's probably another one next year, I just hope that the humiliation on Public Radio isn't as bad as this year's. So peeps, you haven't heard the last from me!

Hanging Out With the Boys!

After work last Saturday, I headed for Glorietta to meet up with the boys- well, just four of 'em. Tua, TL, Omar and Tristan showed up and we pretty much spent about 30 mins goofing off, laughing our lung out and being rowdy little high school boys again, before we decided to actually do something.

Right after a quick dinner, we headed over to Park Square for some sisig and booze (and mango juice for Omar). Got tipsy, watched two girls ride on the mechanical bull, laughed ourselves silly over childish and stupid things.

Hopefully, we can make this a monthly, even weekly, event. Because I desparately need friends right now, especially now that it's been months since my bestfriend passed away and insecurities are creeping up from all direction because of my new job. I will never replace my bestfriend, but I can sure use the company.

It's been so lone since we saw each other...in fact, it's been so long since I've seen any of my friends. And it's also been a while since I had any alcohol in my system, and so I was sufficiently buzzed after round three.
